Single Knee Replacement

Knee replacement surgery is done to eliminate the knee pain, correct deformity and improve the walking speed and style. This is done for patients suffering from tricompartmental osteoarthritis of knee joint. This procedure involves replacement of diseased knee joint with an artificial interface. The durability of artificial joint varies depending on the quality of implant interface, technique and usage by the patients.

When should Knee Replacement Surgery be considered?

There are certain criteria which should be followed in order to opt for the Single Knee Replacement Surgery. Every patient is likely to go for a non-operative treatment after which patients undergo this surgery as the earlier treatment would not provide any relief to arthritic symptoms. If you have failed to respond to other forms of knee pain treatment, knee replacement surgery is an ideal option for you. You will be considered for a knee transplant if you have certain symptoms as mentioned below:

  • You have recurring knee pain.
  • You have knee stiffness.
  • Your knee is unstable/constantly giving away.
  • You have knee deformity like knock-knees or bowlegs.
Single Knee Replacement

An artificial knee is unlike your normal knee, neither is it as good as a normal knee. However, the single knee replacement surgery can be beneficial for pain relief for years together and may also allow you to return to active sports or heavy labour under your knee doctor's instructions. According to the survey done it is believed that most patients with stiff knees before arthroscopy surgery will have better motion after single knee replacement.

Both Knee Replacement

This involves same day both knee surgery under single anesthesia. The main benefits of this single stage bilateral knee replacement are faster recovery, lesser hospital stay and cost effective. But this is done only if the patient is completely fit which is decided by preanesthetic workup and there is no major medical comorbities.
